Painted Barrel

Lana and I received a commission from Bet The Farm winery to paint a wine barrel to show at the beautiful Aurora location. There is a whole event going on for barrel painting, much like the horses in Rochester, or the Buffaloes in Buffalo, they are mainly for show as an event/promotional tool for the finger lake wineries. All of the barrels are up for auction until October, half of the winning bid will go to the painters, the other half to the wine association. There are many painters working on this project for different wineries, you can view all of them and more auction info at http://www.paintedbarrels.com.

The barrel was delivered about a week and a half ago, it surprisingly HEAVY and smelly. After taking a look at it we went out and picked out the supplies, luckily we were able to find some oops paint at home-depot which was just perfect for the project. Other then that we just need pear green spray paint, painters tape, cheap artists acrylics and some cheap brushes. Once the rain let up, we immediately got to work, thankfully we did not run into anything unexpected! It was pretty fun and fast to paint it all out, all in all it took about 2 solid days of work.

Priming stage.

Added other tones/stain/stripes.

Finished!
